  • Ayacucho, land of artisans, is internationally renowned for its artistic manifestations such as quinoa pottery, carvings in huamanga stone and the prized Ayacuchan altarpieces, originally representing small nativity scenes and today including a number of motifs related to the Andean tradition. This is best visited during Easter week, when the Catholic faith consecration ceremony takes place on the famous Ayacuchan via crucis.

  • Plaza Mayor de Ayacucho
The buildings surrounding the square are true works of baroque colonial art and architecture. The stone arches and red clay ceilings are wonderful from every angle.

  • Quinua village
At 3,396m above sea level this historic location is where the Ayacucho treaty of capitulation was signed, the document that signified the end of Spanish dominion in South America. In the museum you can see the stone where the treaty was signed.

  • Ayacucho Historical Pampa Sanctuary
The battle of Ayacucho (December 9, 1824), which defined the emancipation of Peru and all South America from Spanish dominion occurred in the pampa. This is represented by a 44 m tall obelisk which symbolises 44 years of emacipatory struggle, starting with the great revolution of Tupac Amaru.
